This course will review the basic geologic and metallogenic framework of the Yukon including: 1) the Proterozoic inliers exposed in north-central Yukon; 2) Neoproterozoic rifting and development of the lower Paleozoic continental margin and SEDEX mineralization of the Selwyn basin region; 3) mid-Paleozoic rifting and development of the Yukon Tanana terrane and VMS mineralization; 4) geology of the Intermontane belt (Stikinia, Cache Creek) and the overlying Whitehorse trough including an overview of Triassic and Jurassic magmatism and tectonism; 5) the geology of the Insular terranes of southwest Yukon; and 6) Cretaceous intrusion-related gold mineralization. The course will be delivered as a series of presentations from current and retired Yukon Geological Survey geologists and experts from the mineral exploration industry. Time is built in to allow for questions and discussion between topics. Light breakfast refreshments and a catered lunch will be included.
